I noticed our young barred rock hen leaning about 4 days ago. We have had her since a baby and she has been laying for about 2 months now. This is a new situation. No noticeable signs of trama. She is very loving and we can pick her up and poke around and hold her without any fussing or kicking. Any thoughts on what could be going on? We thought early wry neck but it's not getting any worse. Her head and neck just lean right. She acts normal, is eating well, her crop empties over night.

Welcome To BYC

Pretty pullet!

Can you look inside her ears for any signs of pus, infection or mites/debris?

I'm not sure why she's leaning, but I'd consider preemptively treat as Wry Neck if you aren't finding any signs of trauma, infection in the ears, etc.

I'd give her 400IU Vitamin E and 1/4 tablet B-Complex daily along with a little egg for the uptake of E. Give this to her for 2-3 weeks, see if she improves.

We brought her inside to observe. Today I was able to get some better pictures of her condition. What looks like a bulge is more prominent now. It almost feels like her crop is on the wrong side, some sort of growth, or the base of her neck crooked. I am making an appt with our chicken vet for this one and will let you all know what we discover.

Oh I see.

Is her crop emptying?

I'm glad you have a Vet, hopefully they can see you quickly. Keep us posted on what you find out.
