hi everyone.
sooo........
my barred rock layed a blue egg!
so heres the story.
when we got chicks we were hoping for 2 easter eggers but ended up being a different breed so i joined backyard chickens to ask about her breed. turns out she was not an easter egger but something else... perhaps a barred rock. this is a pullet egg its her first egg ever so exuse the shape and is that why its blue maybe cause its her first egg?

you really cant tell its blue but it is very vibrant blue i promise!!!

no i do have a easter egger but i watched my barred rock lay the egg so i know it was her

Is she mixed with anything and you are sure she is a Barred Rock, they should lay a brown egg. Mine lays a really pretty medium brown with some speckles, but they are definitely not blue.

Not to be too much in your lady's business but did you see it "fall" out of her or could it have been in the nest from the EE and the BR was just up there practicing?

If she laid a blue egg, she is not a barred rock.

I would call her an Easter Egger (because she lays blue or green eggs), even if she does not look like most other Easter Eggers.

Many EE look like wanna-be Ameraucanas, but obviously yours looks like a Barred Rock.

I was free rangeing all of my other chickens and then jemi my barred rock went of to go lay an egg so i know it was her cause my easter egger was by my side the whole time and she is my only blue laying breed.

Pure BRs do not lay blue eggs. She is either a mix, or not a BR at all. Can you post a picture of her?
