My barred rock refuses to lay an egg in the nest boxes the other hens use but she will sit in the nest with them and give them her full support.She has her own nest box in a completely different area and until I gave her her own nest box she laid on the ground.

I have one of my flock laying eggs on the coop floor now because all 5 others laying eggs only use 2 out of 4 boxes and the one won’t go to an empty box- she just plops hers on the floor instead!

What if the hen is Barred Rock and the rooster is Aneraucana?

You'd get Sex-link barred cockerels that display head spots when hatched but the pullets would not be barred thanks!

Following, so I can see what color egg that Cream Legbar hybrid lays. It really wouldn’t surprise me if it lays Olive, because CLs are popular to use in OE programs.

Those sure look like olive green eggs to me. Ive seen EE blue eggs and they aren't that color.

That’s what I was thinking. Am I colorblind or just have green and blue mixed up in my brain?

In a similar vein, is it possible that my Polish crested is laying blue eggs? In my flock of 16, there are two easter eggers giving me green eggs, two Ameraucana laying blue , and every one else from an assortment of breeds is laying eggs that are light pink to dark brown. I have been getting two blue eggs every day for weeks, and today I got three. I have never seen my Crested in the nesting box, and I just thought she was never going to lay, because I have never had a white egg. She is the same age as the Ameraucanas, around seven months. There is probably a better place to ask this question, but I couldn't figure out how.

so heres the story.
when we got chicks we were hoping for 2 easter eggers but ended up being a different breed so i joined backyard chickens to ask about her breed. turns out she was not an easter egger but something else... perhaps a barred rock. this is a pullet egg its her first egg ever so exuse the shape and is that why its blue maybe cause its her first egg?

you really cant tell its blue but it is very vibrant blue i promise!!!

I’m going to jump out there and suggest maybe you didn’t get a Barred Rock! I bought several chicks at the feed store this year and I was convinced that I was given a barred rock instead of an Olive Egger. But she just laid her first egg, and it’s definitely olive! She really resembles a barred rock, but doesn’t look exactly right! And she has a very slight top-knot, so we have named her Topsy!

A Polish cannot lay blue eggs.

Most chickens that lay blue eggs do not look like Polish.

But there's always a chance that you could have a chicken that lays blue eggs and does look like a Polish. Some hatcheries have been crossing breeds to produce blue egg layers with a variety of appearances.

Sometimes a hen that normally lays brown eggs will lay a very pale egg, or even a white egg. It's as if she skips the final step (the brown coating on the outside.)

A green egg is a blue egg with a brown coating on it. Maybe one of your green eggers laid an egg without the brown coating, so it looked blue? (Unless you also got 2 green eggs that day.)

Or maybe one of your other chickens is an Easter Egger in disguise, and just now started to lay.

I think Polish sometimes lay pale eggs that are not properly white-- so she might be laying eggs that are not really white, or she might not be laying yet.

Can you post a picture? Some breeds look similar to each other but lay different colors of eggs, so one of us might be able to figure out if she's really Polish or is actually some other breed that looks similar.

My EE’s don’t look like EEs either. One looks black and white speckled much like a barred rock. One is black with a green and purple sheen, one is almost white. Probably someone “got in the henhouse” at the hatchery
