I think I will use your idea. It seems like the most easiest, quick design to do. Thanks for your post!

Thanks! I was just looking for cheap and easy. I'm planning on finishing it today, so I will post more pics. It won't be that different, but it will look better

I could have used a cardboard box, but I need to keep out my cats

They have already sat on the top, so we're good!

Nice looking brooder.

One thing you might consider is if you have the brooder in your house and are using wood chips on the floor of the brooder, you might want to add a solid panel around the bottom 4" or so or they will be kicking all those chips out onto your floor making a big mess. This would not be a problem if the brooder is outside in a coop.

Here's the finished one! I added more screws/washers, hinges, lock (in case I need to keep the kids out LOL!), sprayed it with lacquer, and put some old screen from a door around the bottom - 11" up.

Now, I wait for the chicks!

This looks great! I like the screen you used at the bottom, too. Could you please show a picture of it open and maybe a close-up of the hinges? Thanks so much. I got the supplies today to make one, too.

Here it is all the way open.

And here are the hinges

I used 2.5" screws to connect all the wood together, and 1" ones for the chicken wire and plywood. I think the hinges are 2", and they are 16" apart. The short pieces of wood are 21", and the long ones are 4'... anything else you want to know? Have fun building!
