My broody is pecking eggs open an kicking them out of nest

You're right, there is a wide & strange range of chicken behaviors. I think it has to do with the little voices only they hear in their heads, or the signals beaming down from the Mother Ship. Sometimes the best question to ask isn't WHY? but rather WHAT? to do next or HOW? to prevent it from happening again.

I am sooo happy she is accepting all the babies, she is such a good mama... I like when the mama raises them, its the way it should be.

Glad to see this post as I just had a hen do the same thing. As soon as they pip, the eggs shells are pecked off, membrane left intact. After the second one I lost I took the other eggs away and put them under another hen. She was fine until they started chirping and pipping. Maybe she was trying to help them out of the shell, who knows. But I won't use her to hatch eggs again.

Thats the funny part, she already hatched babies quite a few other times, and this was the first time she did this...that is why it is so wierd to me. Oh well, I am just happy she is accepting the babies as they hatch.
