My Buckeyes not laying....

Oh, those must have been old photos. These guys look mature. And you coop looks great. I think it’s still just a waiting game.
Yes, those were from July 2020, and as far as their combs, for the breed, they stay small and close to the head because of the extreme cold temps in Ohio where the breed orignated..thanks for your reply!

When I’ve experienced egg eating I n my flock, I upped the oyster shells (or crumbled up egg shells) and it solved the problem. To me that meant not enough calcium in their diet. Sometimes, though, it’s just a bad habit they get into and it is very hard to break. It can start if an egg accidentally breaks in the nest and they find and eat it, or any other reason known to chickens. Who knows what goes on in their little brains? I hope you can solve the problem so you can start enjoying those good, fresh eggs!

I have read on BYC that roll out nest boxes can help break the egg eating habit.

Not all pullets will lay their first winter. I have had it work both ways. From what I have experienced, the later they “should start” laying in the fall, the less chance they would lay in the winter.

Or, they could be laying but the eggs are being eaten before you see them.

bobbi-j - Thank you for your reply...it prompted another question: why do they eat their eggs and will that stop or will they just keep eating what they lay?
It can be a habit and they know that they lay yummy treats.

BUT

A lot of the time it's because they aren't getting enough protein or calcium. What do you feed them? Do you give them oyster shells on the side?

Also welcome to BYC! So glad you decided to join us! :celebrate
