I don't think dams built by man are bad. I think they're engineering marvels, but that's probably just my personal opinion. I reckon that people probably think badly of them, because while we use concrete and steel, beavers use things like logs which don't damage the environment to produce. 
However, people don't always ruin nature. What about the national parks, conservation parks, that sort of stuff? There are a lot of people who make a conscious effort to protect and preserve the natural environment. While some of them would rather dig up national parks for their resources, it's not really fair to say that people in general ruin the environment.
I don't know where I'd sit on that one actually. National park or mine? Probably the first one for me, although I wouldn't be mad if they decided on the mine because there are reasons for that too.
