We had a momma bird (a Carolina Wren) move into my rabbit hutch which is only a foot or so away from my coop. She took up residency there while we were still building my coop, which surprised me. Her nest is no higher up than my shoulders so I've been able to check on her when I check on my chicks. We have had such a great time watching her and waiting for her little white, red speckled eggs to hatch! Well, they did hatch and she had 5 babies! They are a week old now and it is getting easier to see them in the nest. Here's some pics of our sweet mommy bird and her babies.

I did see little pieces of eggshell on the ground below the house, so maybe we have little baby birdies too!

We have been adopted by the Carolina Wrens here, they build their nests in the craziest places. We've found "dummy nests" in carboard and styrofoam boxes an once in the bag of hydrated lime.

Last years nest was between the wire of a rabbit hutch and plastic that was stapled to the wood frame to keep the rain out.
