My cat got both of my chicks

I incubated chicken eggs and only 2 of them hatched on Thursday. They were doing really well, very alert and healthy. I was keeping the brooder in my basement and When I went in for something my cat slipped in unnoticed when I went back out I shut the door behind me. I came back down to get something about 20 minutes later and they were gone and the cat was sitting on the couch and I realized what had happened. I feel terrible. I don't see how I didn't notice him come in

Oh, how frustrating and awful. Could've happened to me, certainly. The cat was always trying to get into the room with the incubator and brooder.

I know iniatially I was so mad I wanted to get rid of the cat, but now I think that I'll just have to take much more caution when I get more chicks. Thanks for everybodys' concern
