My chick died today :'(

I got seven chicks from TSC and one kept having his butt paste up... I would clean it every day but then today I had an orthodontist appointment. When I got home and went to check on them, the little baby was dead and all the others were running all over him. I dug a deep hole and took him outside to bury him, wrapped in a little baby blanket. I checked his butt, wanting to know if pasty butt was really the cause, and sure enough he was all pasted up. What really kills me is how warm he was, like he had just died recently. I keep thinking, 'if only I had gotten there faster...'

Has this happened to any of you guys before? I just can't stop blaming myself, despite everyone telling me that this happens a lot to chicks!

if you have another paste up, clean it up then dab some olive oil on the vent, it will keep the poo from sticking.
