No keep petting him! I had a rooster he never got pet and attacked me and the hens all the time! All he was was a problem, I had to give him lots of attention to get him to stop!

It doesn’t matter what breed of chicken it is if you want it to like being held keep petting him and give him lots of attentionI was stuck between a welsummer and a Legbar but I’ve heard lots of different answers so now I’m not sure![]()
So shall I just stick to stroking him and not pick him up?It is a higher chance that he will not respect you and if he decides he must dominate you, he will try. It's not fun. Trust me.
I personally do not pick up birds unless it is to remove them from nest boxes at roost time or to do health checks at night. If I sit down and someone jumps up in my lap or the arm of the chair and allows me to touch them, fine. Otherwise, I just watch their normal behavior and enjoy.
He has another chicken that he has been with since he was hatched and when they are older they will go in with some hensAre you planning on keeping him alone or with other chickens?
If it were me, I'd just go about my business and not fuss with him at all. They usually start attempting to mate around 15 weeks or so, give or take and depending on the presence of other males. You'll get a better feel for which path he is going to take when that starts up.So shall I just stick to stroking him and not pick him up?
That is a good ideaSo shall I just stick to stroking him and not pick him up?
How many cockerels have you had success with raising in this manner? I'm just curious.Don’t mess with “him” to much. But also give him attention like petting and holding.
