My baby chick, Boo, has sadly passed. Yesterday she was perfectly fine and my mom examined her today when I told her she was dead and there was nothing wrong with her. She has food and water. Does anybody know why she died?

not her yesterday, but a picture of her. She was a black sex link.

I'm very sorry you lost your little chick. She looks like she was still only a couple weeks old. If so, she could have died because she wasn't kept in a place that was warm enough. If she wasn't warmed to at least 80F, this may have been the problem.

Or she may have been kept too hot. If you had a heat lamp on her and if the brooder was very small and she couldn't find anyplace away from the heat lamp to cool down, this could have been why she died.

Do you know what her poop looked like? Was there any blood in it? Did you keep an eye on her vent for pasty butt? If her poop became runny and clogged her vent, she could have died from that.

What were you feeding her? If you fed her anything other than her chick feed, she would have needed chick grit to digest the different foods. She could have died from compacted crop or digestive congestion due to not being able to process what you were giving her to eat.

Those are the most common things that can kill baby chicks. Yours may or may not have died from any of them. I would have to be a clairvoyant to be able to diagnose your chick, but those are my guesses.

Well, @azygous, we keep her outside without a heat lamp but her cage is always shady. But she still could have overheated. Her poop seemed perfect, I don't think her vent was clogged, but we did give her some adult chicken pellets. But that was days, maybe even over a week ago. And she was a few months old.
