If it's caused by a Clostridium infection, you'll know it as soon as you rupture the skin. Clostridium is anaerobic, and the gas it creates smells distinctly of rotting flesh.

Alright I just attempted to pop my chicken....
I think my needle is too small but I did managed to relieve a good bit of ''poof''. I stuck the needle in and it actually made a squeaky hissing sound, like when you pinch the neck of a balloon, and my husband and I both laughed. And he is a city boy from San Diego, I asked if he wanted to do it......negative.
I think i'll run down to the feed store and see if they've got anything bigger...
