My chick is having issues

Okay so my very first egg hatching and it's been very well over 24 hrs I believe we are coming up on the 26 hr mark I have put damp paper towels and made sure the membrane is moist all the outter shell that is chipped away I did hoping that it would prompt the little guy to keep going on its own. The egg is kind of hard and I can tell that it's separate from the membrane it's still making lot of peeps but is slowing down and when it does try to break itself out it's to no avail. Please help!

When you say it's been well over 24 hours, are you talking since hatch day or since it pipped?

If it's now been over 36 hours since it pipped, then I'd be helping it out of there. If you're talking it's just a day and a half late hatching, I'd have left it alone. I've had eggs hatch once 3 days late, and a couple of times 2 days later.

I was talking about since it pipped. It's out of the egg now I helped it out. However is it normal for the chick to not be able to hold it's head up? I understand the wobbly part but as far as I understand the chicks neck is supposed to be strong enough to help push itself out of the egg and maybe this is why it couldn't?
