My Chick won't be quiet. It's irritating the family!

I think this thread is about chickens....unless I missed something, lol. No weaning involved unless we're talking heat lamp weaning ;-).
I really don't know a whole lot about chickens, but they do have breasts, don't they?

Would like credible help please:
I have 3 newly hatched chicks and one has curled toes. So in my panic to try to fix it...I used duct tape. Yes it was dumb...I know that now. But he/she can't walk at all like her little buddies can. So seeing that, I thought, why don't I take it off abd use masking tape, I mean it's lighter, right? So I took her out of the incubator and set to work and quickly realized that duct tape, stuck to itself, is IMPOSSIBLE to get off. In the process her nail started to bleed a bit. What do I do? Do I take steps to take it off now? Or wait until her toes are straight, and then try? Help needed please!! And she just hatched this morning.

You might try coating the duct tape with peanut butter. it sounds dumb, but the oil in the PB will break down the glue in the duct tape. It might take overnight or longer.

This year i had 10 day old chicks i raised in my bedroom bathroom until they were old enough to go outside to the coop. They were all large size birds. 7 BarredRocks, 1 SilverPenciledRock,1 SilverLacedWyandotte, 1 Bufforpington. I used the EcoGlow 20 Chick Radiant heat brooder by Brinsea. At night they ALL were completely quiet as they were in tune with the cycle of the sun. They only gave soft happy chirps during the day. I couldnt even hear them through the door. One day i heard a loud paniced chirping and went to check, one of my birds was stuck between the wall of the dog kennel i was using and the brooder and couldnt get out. Luckily i heard her and helped but thats the ONLY time ive ever heard the birds chirping loudly. Its very likely your birds are trying to tell you something. It could be they are too hot or too cold or cant relieve themselves do to a internal or external clog in their vent. Have you seen them relieve themselves? Do they cry when they go? Thats something to pay close attention too. Also are the other birds letting them eat? Drink? They could be kept from food if there are older birds with them. Is their a draft at night? Are they able to get comfortable? Is the light disturbing them at night? There is definitely something going on! If you can do it, i HIGHLY recommend the Brensea Ecoglow brooder. It costs MUCH LESS to run then a heat lamp, no light to disturb their sleep, it gives the chicks Radiant heat much like the sun, no fire hazzard, always the correct temperature. The chicks LOVE IT! they regulate their own temperature. They come and go as they please much like with mother Hen. Its cleaned easily and gets the birds used to the natural rhythm of day and night. I think they have them 10% off now but they are very much worth the price! Can be used over and over. Gives you a piece of mind. The 20 chick small is about 80. I know thats a lot (at least for me) but it is very much worth the cost.i wish id got mine sooner! It made things much easier and the chicks were happy. Do take a very close look at everything and try to figure out what they are trying to tell you.because they are trying to tell you something. Are there other birds with them? If they are only two maybe they are needing more friends (flock?) Im just trying to think of everything that could be causing their disturbing crys. Hope you get it figured out soon. Best wishes to you and your flock. Hope this helps in some way.

I agree that they should be able to develop a day/night cycle. I use a ceramic heat emitter for reptiles and a metal reflector. As in the Brinsea, no fire hazard and it has a stable, infrared beam that allows the chicks to adjust their position to how warm they want to be. Not as pretty as the Brinsea but I can get 20+ chicks under the 60 watt one for under $20. Of course, these chicks are in the house and the emitter is not trying to compensate for outdoor temperatures. Hope you find out what is wrong with them soon.
