i will be getting more fans running for them. the other day we had both garage doors open and they were all panting we came in and felt so bad for them. i didn’t think it could be heat stress but it makes since. her comb is a bit pale too
Remember with treats moderation is important.
No more than 1/8th cup per bird of chunky fruits.
Scratch isn't chunky so only a couple tablespoons per bird is plenty.
The treats are lacking in proteins and nutrients that they need from their feed. If they fill up on treats they aren't eating their feed.
When it's hot they don't eat as much so WHAT they eat is even more important.
These are mo go to's for hot weather.
They really help but won't necessarily stop panting and wing lifting.
I give a dose of Sav-a-Chick electrolytes/vitamins about once a week during heat waves. It really seems to help....started this after they saved a heat stroked hen once.
Can mix up a smaller amount, just wrap the packet tight and store in a dry cool place. Always have plain water available too.
BIG(9x14x2") chunks of ice last all day for wading, sitting, and sipping.
Much more useful to the chickens than frozen foods and treats.
