I've been using the heat lamp for the winter months, so since december or so. We're thinking of taking it out because spring is arriving. I haven't changed anything in their coop recently either.Have you changed anything in their husbandry ? How long have you been using the heat lamp? It may have disrupted their metabolism.
We took out the heat lamp today and I will try to add more feeders and waterers!Spacewise it's not bad for 3 chickens, certainly more than minimum, and the way the coop is elevated it does provide a bit of a hiding spot if needed.
I'm wondering about the heat lamp as well. In your climate there shouldn't be a need for it at all, and if it's on 24/7, it could be disrupting sleep or like sourland mentioned, messing with metabolism because lights will cause them to want to eat and drink around the clock.
I would start by turning off the light, and adding a second feeder and waterer, and place them so they're in opposite corners, so the bully bird can't easily try to guard both spots.
Also how many chickens could I have in my coop?
