Oh my, your story brought tears to my eyes and I am SO sorry for your loss... it's never easy. I watched the video and she looked like such a sweet girl with so much personality. I hope Colbie Bear is able to make friends with one of your other chickies

Lilly will be greatly missed, it's not hard to tell!

I'm so sorry for your loss! Never easy losing a pet.

I have a hen who plays with my dog too, just like lily and Colbie did in your video. Some hens have no fear.

Thank you all so much. I ate Lilly's last egg today and I couldn't help to cry again. Colbie Bear misses her, I can tell, when he comes with me to say hi to the other chickens and he waits for his friend to show up. I don't know, Lilly had a special bond with Colbie since she was just a chick, the others don't pay much attention to him, but they feel comfortable around him.

I am so sorry. I too started out with Buffs. I love my girls. Miss Priss, Blondie and the twins Scrambled and Omelet. I have had them almost 3 years. It will kill mewhen I loose one. I have lost chicks that they brooded. Maybe you could wait until Spring and let your broodie hen raise a couple of 1 to 3 day old chicks. I have done this with 3 of my girls. I put tge chicks under them a couple hours after they went to bed. The broodie hen will be sleeping on a nest and I just slip them under her and from that point on she was their Mommy.
I am in Texas about an hour north of Austin.

One of my girl's name is Omelette :)
I thought about that, but i am not allowed to have more than 4 chickens and. I don't know if one baby chick will make it, and also, I can't have any rooster , so the baby would have to be sexed :(
I just feel I can't wait to have another one, but I also feel like having a show quality orpington, no luck finding any so far

The 4 chicken limit is yhat a neighborhood thing?

Well, in LA there's no limit, but I live in a residential area and my coop is far enough from the neighbors but not enough from my home for a few feet, so I'm trying to keep it as secret as possible, and my girls only make noises when they lay, actually 2 of them do, Phoebe is super quiet.
