My chicken sang the egg song!

Argh I want silkies so badly. But the bf says no silkies b/c the local chicken guy said no silkies. If I want a broody hen, get cochins. So now looking for sizxle, fizzle cochins! And want french marans. And cream legbars. And and and...

Umm, exactly why does the "local chicken guy" say no Silkies?!?! That's absurd. Silkies are awesome; no less awesome than Cochins.
What are you looking for in your flock? Great egg production? Broody hens? Easy to sex chicks at hatch? A colourful egg basket?

you know, my hubby said no silkies too but one day when he wasn't with me, I came across some did sake at TSC.i couldn't resist and got 4 of them (2 to sell). He now likes them lol and thinks we should always have at least one. Not to mention, my silkie Cloud wad the first to lay out of my entire flock at 18 weeks old (everyone is 21 weeks old now). She's still going strong and gives me about 6 eggs a week :)

heres my video so you no what to look out for

I played this while I was sitting outside with my girls and it was the funniest thing ever. All 5 of them got real stiff except they kept moving their heads all around I assume trying to find those chickens they were hearing. It was too funny!

Quote: Iv played it back to my girls and they got really confused looking at me like how?? howd you do dat?! lol like puppies they tilt their heads side to side. I have it at my ring tone (ah now im starting to understand why people think im crazy!) it has made a few people think Ihave a chicken in my bag, I wish this was the case, all my girls would love that!

Double Kindness - Whats his beef with silkies? they are so cute and friendly once u get them on side otherwise their pecks HURT! But how can he say no to a lil fluff ball of love?! I have three and not had an egg in about 3weeks one has snapped out of being broody but just isnt interested in laying again and the other two are Broody! When they do lay they are beautiful china white eggs which are mainly just yolk

My bf is, against silkies b/c the guy at the feed store said stay away from silkies, and we've got several of his chickens. Everytime I pick up a silkie he freaks out... except a month ago at a chicken swap he saw a white silkie roo and kinda sorta almost let me get it... instead let me come home with a polish chicken instead of the 4 white silkie chicks I had in my hands as ny hand reached for my wallet... drat!!

I'm looking for broody birds to be a bator and little chick raiser.. and a colorful egg basket (almost done... just need french marans, and cream legbars, got all the other colors I want for egg laying) and since I just have 1 polish, I was thinking bantam coop/run!!

Local chicken guy has power over my bf. My bf was relenting on letting me get silkies until 3 more encounters with local chicken guy yelling no silkies!!

Buuutttt... at the 2 chicken swaps this weekend there might be silkie chicks. If not... several local members have silkie eggs, and cream legbar eggs. I'm setting up a little home made incubator today... for possible hatchings since well.. chicken math.

And I want to keep the black bone/dark skin/meat genes to see what an ayum cemani x silkie would be like. That's my strongest argument for silkies. I want to make silkied cemani.

The cemani are in a friends bator, who has her breeding stock on hand and set far more eggs than she knows wtd with.

Maybe if I do a silkie & cream legbar hatch, I'll get brave enough for trying cemani? Unless ya know, I get some broody silkie to stick eggs under. Or broody cochin. Or wait for the cemani then svart honas. But patience is not a virtue I posess

My silkies have been broody more often than not and all three looked after the two chicks i got even though I gave them to just one - Sally. Once Sally got bored Scrambles and Stubs took over the mothering role all in all they did a brilliant job. Could you just hatch out some silkies mixed in with the other two breeds and say there must have been a mix up when they hatch? once u have them he wont be able to say no!

I'm sorry, but I'm having a very hard time understanding why you need your boyfriend's *permission* to get silkies ... with YOUR OWN money, no less!! I just can't wrap my brain around that. Plus, by your own words, he values some stranger's personal opinion about something more than your happiness. If you think this is love, we need to have a talk. I sure hope you aren't entertaining ideas about marrying him one day ... he sounds like he'd be an abuser.
