My chicken sang the egg song!

Woohoo:ya
First one from the bunch I bought on May 28th.
Yesterday around 4pm, ??????and again about 830pm.????? Weird!
She may be a Grazer because shes pretty big compared to rest of her clan but I think she's one of the BuffOrpingtons.
Don't know where to look for the eggs either kuz they ain't in the boxes, not even in the coop. I have a large run(a bit over an acre) with trees and brush and willows and long gras and weeds and a few open spaces......and way too many mosquitoes, but I really wanna see them eggs.
I'm so excited.
:oldLOL, 56 summers:old and still excited about first eggs, it just don't get old. Wow

Thank you! I thought i was picking the eggs out fast before the next hen went in but apparently not. I have 4 nesting boxes so I'll add two more as i have 6 hens laying.

One nest box per hen is unnecessary. They like to share.

Actually, seeing an egg in a box tells them it must be a safe place to lay. I have 7 girls and they typically all lay in the same box.

As for moulting, I'm hoping they start pretty soon and get over it before the weather gets cold. They need their feathers for insulation.

Finally, you can't miss the egg song; Ga-bwak! buk, buk, buk, buk. Ga-bwak, buk, buk, buk buk. <repeat ad nauseum> It can be before, after, or during laying, or when someone else lays. It can also be in answer to another's egg song.

If you look back at earlier posts, a couple of people posted videos of their hens doing the egg song. Or you can Google it or search for it on YouTube. That is where I first heard it.

Yup just depends. My 1st layer has never sang the egg song. I have a 2nd layer now and I'm not sure if she has sang either. But I have an EE that has sang the song about 3 or 4 times in the past 2-3 weeks and she's not even laying yet. I think she sings for her flock sisters!
