My chicken sang the egg song!

yes but do they sing this song before they lay an egg or after? and do they do this song every time

As I said in my previous post, "It can be before, after, or during laying, or when someone else lays. It can also be in answer to another's egg song." Also, nothing in life is guaranteed, so some may do it every time, some may do it initially and stop, some may sing sporadically when the spirit moves them.

My chickens started laying a week and a half ago. It started with one lonely egg in the bottom of the coop floor (pictured below).

Now I get 6 eggs a day from my seven girls. They lay their eggs from when I let them out in the morning around 7am and are usually finished by noon. They don't really make a lot of noise so I just keep poking my head into the nesting boxes to see what's in there. :) I am still obsessively taking photos of the eggs and posting them to my FB so I'm sure my friends, and a few strangers, think I have lost my mind.

Good luck with anyone waiting for eggs. I totally understand the anticipation!

that's awesome. I have 5- 23 week hens. My first layer started aug 1st and I didn't get a 2nd layer until Sept 1st. So nice that all yours have started one right after the other. Still waiting on 3 more and it's so hard to wait! Beautiful egg by the way.

I am convinced that Backyard Chicken Owners (BYO) are a select group of lunatics, and that the "uninitiated" cannot possibly understand our obsession. I know my family and friends definitely thought I had slipped off the deep end when I first got my girls, built a very expensive chicken coop, and started getting my first eggs. My son rolls his eyes because I can name them all and, for the most part, know who laid which egg. So, post/brag away here. We appreciate your excitement over this miracle of nature, and won't call the men with the nets to come get you.

Hehe!
It's true.
We are nuts!
And it gets worse.

Your Avatar looks like one of my Speckled Sussex who are named Margaret T. Hatcher and Eggatha Christie.
