Since about 5-6 days now one of my four chicken would sit in the nesting box ALL DAY LONG if we wouldn't lift her out of it, several times a day, everyday!! I thought someone might have an idea what could be the matter? She doesn't peck us when we lift her out and once she's out she's fine walking around etc for a few hours.. also would she sit if there are eggs or not.

so she wouldn't come out to eat etc.? because she's really in ALL DAY.. lol, ok if she's broody, is it a phase that will pass?

I read about the "putting fertile eggs down for her" but I can't do that at this point.. the timing is really not right. I usually take her out, once or twice a day and she'd be out for a while :) Well at least she isn't sick then I was worried that we did something wrong !!

I have 4 bantams and on Saturday one started to become broody, and now I have three.I have also been getting them out for food and water,I'am new to chickens so its a bit of a worry that I'am do the correct thing.:/

same here, it was the first time it happend to ours.. She was in there for days and I thought she was hurt. Actually she was yesterday one of her toes was bleeding when I lifted her out. After seeing that I washed the nesting box and left it out for the day. She was forced to sleep on the roost and today I washed out the coop etc. just to be sure she's not picking up any germs etc. I'll probably have to give her a bath as well since one of the eggs cracked and she's very dirty. But I believe other than that she'll be ok.. I hope.

I'm going through the same with my pullet. at first I thought she might be egg bound but thank God she is just broody. she had stopped laying completely and sits all puffed up on her nest. I've seen her eat about once a day thank God but she's on day 5
I hope she won't loose too much weight!
