I moved my 10 week old mixed breed chicks into a new coop today. Caught them 1 by 1 and moved them over about 1 hour. The last to go didn't want to be caught so was on his own for a bit. Went inside and we all thought we could hear a goose in the back yard. Went out and it was him, honking like a goose - no kidding! I watched and have no doubt it was him and the in-laws agree it was just like a goose!!

He was fine once he was back with his buddies. Guess it was his pinning noise.

Anyone else experienced this?

just wanted to share

I let my girls free range in the evening for a couple hours while I am out with them. I have one pullet who will once in awhile go into the coop alone and every time will "honk"!

I know...it's very funny!

Not sure exactly what it "means" though...

glad to hear the references to 'she' in there, was a little worried the honking might mean she will be a he!

My chickens sound like geese when there is something wrong.
When they are being stressed. When a neighbor kid & her dogs were in my yard chasing them. One chicken disappeared and the rest quit laying for a while.

The brat kid has been told many times over the past 2 years to keep off my property. Each time I catch her in my yard she gives me the same lame excuse. "My dog went in your yard. Help me catch my dog." I tell her not to come in my yard for any reason & keep the dog in her house or chained. I have spoke several times to her parents & still she comes in. I hear the chickens & go & find her there. The dog was NOT in the yard. It was up the street. The dog follows the girl. It does not come in the yard until she does.

It is very aggravating. She does this when I am home. I worry what she does when I am not home.
