not intentionally bringing the dead to life, but. i was searching if anyone experienced their chickens honking like a goose and running like an idiot after they egg-lay.

all five chickens have been doing this for the last couple weeks. i first saw this two weeks ago. i was in the garden and all of sudden "big mama" comes charging out of the coop, flapping her wings and running all around the backyard and honking as loud as she could. i thought something was wrong, so i ran to the coop and all i see is an egg that wasn't there a few minutes before and very warm. so, since then all of my chickens have been doing the same behavior. its hilarious and it saves me time going out checking if there are any eggs. all i have to do is wait and listen for their honking and running around like idiots to grab their eggs!

LOL, what kind is she? I too have an EE that sounds like a duck, it is so funny to hear her when I bring out treats, you hear chickens and then this duck

all five are buff orpingtons. big mama, of course is the biggest of the bunch and used to crow like a roo. i supposed she did it to express her dominance.

it is hilarious to hear them honking. i can sit on my couch with the patio door open, if i hear honking, i know it is time to collect some eggs!

One of my Black Australorps and one of my Buff Orpingtons has been making this noise when a newbie is in the box laying her first egg. It's part of the bigger celebration all of the flock has when a first egg is laid. It's the funniest thing I've every seen!
