I have a variety of different breeds of chickens (silkies, Orpington, Colombian rock, Easter eggers, Legbars) and they all seemed to stop laying for the past 4 weeks. They are all different ages from 6 months to 3 years old and not one seems to be laying. The weather has been a bit colder but even on warmer days they don’t produce. None are showing any signs of illness as well.

It's the amount of sunlight they get, shorter days, they need about 14hrs of "light". Depending on the age of your Orpingtons, they take longer to mature, Silkies are not "layers", EE mature around 5 - 6mos, not sure about the Legbar & Rock.

You could hang a light in their coop on a timer to make up the difference.

Agreed. Mine don't lay when the days get shorter, no matter the temperature.

Silkies aren't layers? We are still averaging 5 per day from 11 silkies with two offline brooding. My My 4 sumatra + 1 Feral OEGB are probably producing 1 egg daily from those 5 so yes it dropped off majorly. Right now we get 10 hours of daylight daily.

Thanks I will try this. I’ve had chickens for five years and never had this issue before. All the chickens were laying prior, including the Orpingtons and silkies.

Luckily my girls are "young" 20wks next Monday, just got done with Jr Molt & it's dark alot longer. This afternoon heard an "egg song" :fl opened up their nest box & now the wait is on but don't think it'll be until later this month. A friend of mine has been pacing, her chickens stopped laying a few months ago and it's been torture for her. We had a huge thunderstorm, got one of them laying :lau

@AllenK RGV I've been told they're not "layers" like the RIR, Leghorns, BR and other breeds know as "layers".
