My chickens aren't laying yet :(

Glad you joined us! Different breeds start laying at different ages and there are other factors involved, but you would most likely start seeing eggs when they are between 20 and 25 weeks old.

Hello - I have the same question (of course) as a new chicken owner. We received our chickens September 1, 2014 and were told they were 5 months old (just in case, we'll assume they were only 4-months old when we received them). They would now be 7-8 months old now and none of them have laid an egg yet. We have four. After reading the posts I see that pictures are sometimes key in helping determine so I've included the area/coop along with pictures of our birds. they are all friendly and doing well - they seem to enjoy where they live. they remain in their extended coop area protected most of the day but we let them out at least 2-4 hours per day to walk around the yard, etc. they stay on the one side and eat all our garden greens which is funny. They are very entertaining. Any suggestions? We feed them food recommended from where we got them, and feeding them layer mash. Also fresh greens, corn, watermelon, etc. and they eat grass and worms as well. No eggs...I haven't tried setting a light to come on earlier in the morning but wondering when we'll finally start seeing eggs!!











 
One of our Welsummers gave us our first egg today! All of the chickens were making weird noises this morning and then our Welsummer, Punkin', was nesting. So I had a feeling someone was about to lay, but I was so excited when I saw that little egg sitting in the box!
Now I have a question about the roosters. When I went down today, one of my roos was bleeding. Is it true that I can't have more than one rooster in the henhouse? I'd hate to have to get rid of any of them, but I don't want to have them in a bad situation.

Congratulations on your first egg! Those weird noises sound like an egg call. They can be pretty noisy and proud of themselves.

Now exciting! I can't help you with your Rooster question as I have none. But could you tell me the age of your Wellsummer (and the other chicks you have) so i could get an idea of when mine may start laying? Thanks and congrats!!!
