MY CHICKENS CLUCK LOUD REALLY EARLY IN THE MORNING !! WHAT DO I DO?

That has got to be the "I need to lay an egg song - let's party".

The very first time I heard it I thought my chickens (my rooster was making the same noise) were telling me a predator was near - no predator. So I figured one had laid an egg - no egg. I finally figured out my hens like to celebrate by being loud and obnoxious before the lay an egg - like 30-60 minutes prior.

Oh boy, nobody warned you about the egg chorus? Depending upon the individual hen, it can be very quiet or very noisy! It's their way of welcoming, and then bragging about, an egg. If you have one noisy one, the others all join in. My roosters like to brag, too. Quite a racket! Starts my day off with a smile, but NOT for people who work nights!

This weekend I awoke to heard my BR, who's not laying right now, doing the egg song. As soon as I turned on the light in the bathroom she stopped. she's the only one of my 3 standards who makes a fuss over eggs. The BSL and RIR couldn't care less about laying eggs. They seem to see it like theier wifely duty or something.

Too late. I was already up so let them out.

The bird I expect to really make a racket is my banty cochin. She's a fussbudget.

I love the egg song!!! Especially when they all join in...and then the rooster.....and he sounds just like the girls, just loaded...but it's funny, it starts slow and one by one they all are doing it.....26 at a time doing it is great....really sad when I go out to see what the issue is and I only have ONE EGG!!!! Cant wait till I can hear 50 of them doing this in the spring!!!

its interesting cause some days they will do it and some days they wont. Some times its at four in the morning and some times its like around noon. I at first thought they ran out of food to and thats why they were clucking but they had plenty of food hahah those lil twits haha some times i just want to be like hey can you not do that any more guys its making the neighbors mad, and wish they would just talk back and be like oops sorry ya we will quit that. hahahahah

its usually my aeracaunas ( i dont know how to spell ) they are little boogers!!! but i wouldnt blame them for doing their lil egg song cause recently one of my aeracaunas has been laying HUGE HUGE HUGE green eggs like seriously i feel bad for her. I could actually probably start selling her eggs in doz. cause she lays them SOOOO frequently. Poor thing.

Hi

My chickens do it too- they've just started to lay. It's a sign that they're about to lay an egg.

Is there anyway that you could throw a tarp over the jungle gym? I mean once they have gone to roost, later in the evening? Do they roost on the monkey bars right out in the open sky? What state/city are you in?

I had a couple of crazies who went beyond cackling would actually scream at the top of their beaks in the morning and this was before laying had ever started in their lives. I have them in a barn but no insulation so no noise filter either.

It really puts you in a bad spot concerning your neighbors who may be close by.

This morning they started doing it like around seven. and i Just yelled at them every time they squacked. and eventually they started to quite down

i have little roosts set up for them under the jungle gym and i have a clear plastic tarp around the jungle gym as a wind block. I live in Utah right up on the mountain so it gets pretty chilly. Dont worry i have timed lights that come on and off to keep them warm

but i litterally have neighbors right behind my house and to the sides of my house. i am walking on a thin line here i believe.

surprise, not so lucky. Like you, I have neighbors all around me, and I surely don't want anyone to call animal control on me, I love my babies!
So at night, my hubby and I take "Cinnamon" in the house and put him into a dog crate until, say around 8:00 a.m. What a pain it is to hear him going off around 5:30!! I really need to find him a good home. Am looking for one as we speak.
