One of my girls is particularly vocal. She has something to say about everything. Everyone is fighting over one nest box right now and she gets REALLY unhappy when someone else is in "her" nest. She also did the same song when someone else decided to roost on "her" roost. Maybe you had some chicken drama going on too that finally worked itself out. They sure are pretty funny creatures. :)

At least they are not crowing. I had a polish hen that crowed exactly like a rooster and layed eggs. She tried to teach my cochins too they crowed a little and I havn't heard it since she is gone thank goodness since I live in town.

i went to gather my eggs this morning and when i went to gather the eggs they had like pecked two of them. I think they like ate the inside. it was really weird.

Uh oh about the pecking... that is a terrible habit for them to start. Research on here about how to stop egg-eaters. There are a few tried and true ways, though I've never tried them myself. The sooner you deal with it, the easier it should be to combat.

Don't worry about the huge eggs. That's pretty common. Just enjoy them.

And about the noisy girls... sorry! I hope your neighbors don't complain, because I don't know a lot you can do about it. I'm thankful to live in the country, where my hens and roos can make all the noise they want. I love the chicken noises. I get the biggest kick out of one of my roosters standing outside the coop singing the egg song every time the girls do! He's such a proud papa.

You're in UT? Wave at my sis over in Grantsville next time you see her.

She's been talking about getting chickens, but it hasn't happened yet.

Do your hens have darkened nest boxes to lay eggs in? They like to hide in the dark to lay eggs, but don't eat in the dark. That could prevent them from eating the eggs.

maybe their shells were really thin cause they hay that i have in their box isnt very thick right now and maybe they layed on the wood and broke them
