The good thing about all of this is that we've been taking them all out into the run and the coop almost every day for a few minutes to several hours since they were one week old, so none of it is unfamiliar territory to them.
Once it started getting dark, I was in the run with them. Our Australorp is the herald of night and starts chirping loudly about it before anyone else. Once she started going off I lured them into the coop with treats. The darker it got, the more they wanted to roost on me rather than stay in the coop, but I got them all in and shut/locked all doors. They immediately switched from loud chirping to their usual pre-sleep peeping as the tousle for the center of the pile. In ten minutes they were silent and I heard nothing more out of them. Last night, their second night out, when the 'lorp started going off, they all marched straight into the coop on their own and settled right down.
lol wait till the 'lorp goes off at 4am every morning doodling. They always seem to miss the sunrise by a couple hours too early and it always seemed to be right outside my bedroom window.
