I understood what you were saying, picklebird. I just meant that if they freerange over wooded areas, they will get bumblefoot again, even if it clears up completely.

Yes, always make sure that the coop and pens are safe, soft and smooth on the surfaces. I do this frequently, re-sand the roosts, etc. And if they would stay in the pens, they probably wouldnt get it. My problem where I live is that the previous owners had numerous small burn piles. After six years of picking up glass, nails and bullet casings, every storm brings more broken glass to the surface. It's neverending!
So is this bumble foot

There looks to be some bumblefoot between the toes, and there also is some scaly leg mites on the legs. Look for a scab on the bottom of the foot as well. Soaking the feet in warm Epsom salts every day may be helpful in treating both problems. Surgery sometimes is necessary on the bumblefoot to get the hardened pus out of the foot. Apply some vaseline, castor oil, or Nustock to the legs to treat the mites. Ivermectin can be useful in treating leg mites as well. Here is a link about bumblefoot to read:

Ooo I didn’t realize she had leg mites ok I looked at her foot and I do not see any scabs anywhere on her foot or bottom of her foot. It’s just a big pus bubble ugh. I put neosporin on her foot and wrapped it up

Did you find a solution for this? One of my hens has a bubble on her foot just like the one in your picture.
