My chickens hate me!

Sounds like she knows what she wants and doesn't want and isn't afraid to tell you.
Yep, I should have said she hisses at the other pets mostly. Not at me. She is quite bossy. Every time I get up, it's a lottery as to who will pinch my spot, her or one of the dogs. (She probably does hiss at me when I move her :D She's quite a cranky pants. She was 12 when I adopted her. I think the people rehomed her because she was being "mean" to their little kids/baby.)

Just curious... is she declawed?

Nope. (I don't think that's a "thing" here, I don't think any vet would do it)

Thank goodness! I do not like the practice at all & here I've noticed a correlation between super aggressive cats and being declawed. It's certainly not all that are declawed bc I have met one in particular little female that is the sweetest little cat I've ever handled and she's declawed but generally speaking there's a correlation for sure. And I actually know the history of them before they were declawed and they weren't declawed due to bad behavior. I've sort of theorized that they know that their first line of defense is gone so they're always vulnerable and on guard.

between super aggressive cats
I know hissing is an aggressive "thing", but she's not so much aggressive as "vocal". The hissing isn't accompanied by anything else, it's just like she likes to warn everyone when she doesn't like something. She's also vocal with her meowing voice. She chirrups and makes funny sounds. She's a "talker".

She sounds like a cutie! Never a dull moment with pets.

Usually, after such attention, they will stand and stare up at me. I'm guessing that they are asking "Was the humiliation of getting picked up and handled by the human worth that incredible facial massage????"[/QUOTE]

Hahahaha! :yuckyuck

I can't really handle my chickens either, but sometimes they'll squat & want their butts scratched... I've since learned why they do this, lololol, but I still scratch them anyway, it's the only time they let me touch them!
They're actually my son's & he spent the most time with them when they were chicks, so they'll come over to him and cluck and chatter, but usually won't even let him pick them up!

Boy, am I telling on myself, I wasn't going to give anything remotely personal out, but that's our neighborhood. And we kept a rooster for years, with all our neighbors consent, and we had some new people move in that I didn't realize until it was too late. I had been in the habit of bringing a dozen eggs to those new to our neighborhood. I didn't realize I had new neighbors down the block. All the men loved the rooster, but they were all up earily, construction jobs and medical people, what a mix~!! Any way we had to re home our roo. My backyard is louder now because we have no roo to break up hen fights. So neighbors, be careful what you wish for. Why wont they let you have a rooster? I am showing my ignorance, by I thought Vadalia was pretty rural. I was envious all night!

Did the new neighbors complain about the rooster? Is that why you had to rehome it?
I'm new to chickens and we live in a rural ag area, so, as far as I know, we're ok with having whatever.

[\ That stinks you lost your roo! I honestly don't see why people get to put their feet down in regards to roosters yet loud barking dogs are expected to be overlooked. I've got neighbors that just let their dogs go on and on and I find it so disrespectful however a rooster crowing is offensive??? Um ok!!!!

Right!? Smh

Oh I really get it with the dog thing. We have dogs that live in almost every neighbors home and we have wild life since Katrina, possums, coons, Night Herons nesting in the oak tree in front of our house. The young herons actually perch on my roof and wait for a fish to swim by in my pool. LOL But when the wild life get one dog going, they all start barking. It can really get obnoxious. However that doesn't seem to be a problem in our city, kind of like pot holes in the street. We have so many they get named and decorated. Since your rooster law seems to be word of mouth, have you talked to your neighbors regarding keeping a roo? When I got busted we only had to get rid of the roo and the spca gave us 14 days to do so, no fine, and they didn't even check my backyard for how many birds I was keeping. We are only allowed 4 pets, doesn't matter if it's 1 cat, 1 dog and 2 hens, as long as it's not more than 4.

Having the Herons visit you is really cool! Really sorry about your rooster tho. :(
