that's so precious! Your neighbors sound like real gems! (Is this the same older couple that cried with you at the Biggest Little Rooster's demise? ) I'm glad they enjoy your animals. Joint custody of a kitty can be a good thing!
Every night when I go out to close the chicken house door, at least 2 (and sometimes 3 or 4) of my cats will follow me into the run, checking to make sure everyone has gone inside to sleep. Sometimes they'll follow me into the chicken house for head count. The youngsters sometimes will fuss a bit, but the oldsters just go, "oh. It's you. Turn that light out, would ya?"

Yes, the run is hardly predator proof, but they do get locked in their safe and secure coop at night . The run is more to keep them in than to keep anything out.

They are nice, aren't they? The girls look so fashionable. The same neighbors came over and took pictures of the girls in their saddles to show everyone they know!! I think they talk about my chickens more than I do. She brought her daughter and granddaughter over to show them the saddles, then brought them over to show them the kitty. LOL
So, my neighbor threw a bale of hay in for the girls, and of course they had it all spread out in a very short amount of time. Since I re-buried the fence, we've had less escapees, and the little kitten hasn't been hanging out at the coop door with them. It's pretty much dark when I get home, so I didn't see kitty last night.
This morning, I was having my coffee on the porch, and looked out to the run...
I can't see all that far, but wondered if that tiny little dark spot might be a kitty. It wasn't moving. But a closer look:
It couldn't stay asleep long. Soon she was surrounded by chickens. She woke up, stretched and had a little bath.
All the while, chickens were running around her. Rooster was chasing the girls around in his morning ritual of trying to show all the girls some lovin. Kitty just looked at them all like they were crazy!
