Yesterday while moving the chicken tractor, one of my hens legs got caught underneath the coop and is either broken, dislocated or both. There was some blood. NO visible bone fracture. The leg is limp and completely loose from joint (dangles). I need direction on how to set it and any other similarly related experience/testimonies will be appreciated. I plan on building a sling for her in the morning.

TIA!!

Always with a broken bone, I would suggest a vet visit to get an xray. I would look closely for cuts if the bone has punctured the skin, since that would require some strong antibiotics to prevent bone infection from bacteria on the skin. Use betadine iodine or chlorhexidene on broken skin. Do you know which bone may be broken from the drawing above? For splinting you will need padding, something stiff like popsicle sticks, and vet wrap or cohesive bandage. Here is a splinting manual where you can read about the beat way to splint for each part of the leg:

I just read your above post and this is exactly what I needed to read. Thank you so much for the time and trouble you took to post this. I cut and pasted all for further referance as I expect it could well be needed and I'd hopefully be able to find it easier than searching. Thank you so very much. You guys are just amazng.. If the world worked with this kind of cooperation.. well .. wow.. like what a wonderful world it would be. :) Let the chickens lead!
