My chickens sit at the door of the coop..

So they were roosting inside, before the last couple of nights?
A thermometer inside at roost height will give you a better idea of how hot it is inside. Panting and wings out is their way of trying to cool down.
They don’t roost they cuddle up to one another. They are only 8 weeks old . I will put a thermometer inside thank You.

Do they have roosting bars in there or do you expect them to bed down in that giant pile of pine shavings? Pine shavings make great insulation, i.e., hold in heat. In the summer I keep a thin layer to absorb moisture from droppings but much more than that, and the chickens may be too warm.

Gonna lay down a tiny bit of Sick Wisdom™️ on you, from a couple who have kept chickens for a few years now.
Mind you, this is hard-earned Sick Wisdom™️, and is distilled into a few phrases. It may seem silly, but as time goes on you will hopefully come to a similar conclusion with your beautiful girls.

Ready?
Really ready?
  • Chickens are silly.
  • They are simultaneously incredibly fragile and amazingly resilient.
  • They are creatures of habit.

That's our Sick Wisdom™️ for today.

Now, roosting bars: great!
Ventillation: necessary!
Can they possibly also see light while their heads are out, as opposed to the dark inside the coop? If so, a small (Dollar General) lantern in the coop for 2-3 nights might help them figure things out. Doesn't have to be all night, just for an hour or so until they go to bed.

Hopefully we have given you a little more food for thought for tonight. Good luck!

Thanks you I will try it see how it works .

So they are still staying in the door way. I put them on the coop and close the door . But they still all
Pile up in the corner by the door opening . I have put a lantern and they are still acting weird . They use to go all the way in the coop but now they are being strange .

Make sure there are no rats/mice getting in at night, or predators prowling around outside, spooking them. It may still be too warm inside, with their added body heat, for them to go in at night.

I did check for any predators and looked inside the nesting boxes there nothing. That’s what I’m thinking just feel bad that they are on top of each other in a corner .

Don't fret. When I first put my youngsters in, it took them time to adjust too. They picked a corner, and all piled in it together. In time, they figured it all out, but it didn't happen overnight.
