My chickens squat & there wing bones go up??Scared?

My chickens are very friendly but all of a sudden when I walk up to them instead of running, they kind of coward(sp?) like a dog would when scared?? They drop down, and their wings look strange, the feathers go down and the bone goes up??? Is this normal? Does it mean anything? They have never been abused, and this behavior sure makes it easier to pick them up, but I wonder if something is wrong?? Has anyone ever seen or heard of this? Thank You!

Funny, my hens have done that for quite some time now, and I didn't know what it meant. When we added a rooster two weeks ago, I finally got it.

Your hen thinks you're a rooster, and she's saying, "Come and get it". Get her a rooster, or watch where you step. I can't count the number of times I've tripped over a squatting hen.
