A hen who is getting close to laying will sport a head, face, and comb that is ripe strawberry red and swollen and puffy like a very ripe strawberry. I didn't notice this in your hens.

My rhode island reds still no eggs, but my 24 week and 5 days old buff orphington laid her first egg at 7pm tonight. So awesome!!!
