My chickens and ducks have been raised together since they were 1 day old, all the chickens sleep on the floor with the ducks instead of roosting. Does anyone else have experience with this? We tried to put them on the roost at night, but they just jump back down.

My chickens avoid my ducks as much as possible, but hopefully someone has some answers for you. I think it's kinda cute personally lol.
Were yours raised together? Mine are a very tight knit group. It is cute, but they are getting so big now that they are literally on top of each other in the corner. This is my first time raising ducks, so we decided to raise them together. I've also noticed that there isn't any fighting or pecking order between the chickens, because the ducks seem to be the leaders. That is nice, because we've had issues in the past with some of the girls being nasty.

Do ducks and chickens fight at all? Will the rooster attack female ducks? I'm getting two Pekins and i want to be sure, as i am putting them in with my chickens (14 hens and one rooster). I don't want to buy them and then have an issue.

Since your chickens are already established, you will probably have a problem introducing them. You should keep them separated, but in a way that they can see each other for a while, before trying to introduce them. Are you getting hens or drakes or both? The rooster will try to mate with female ducks. Male ducks cannot be in with chickens.

I plan to keep them in a run for a while (and get all females) for that reason and until they learn of the danger of hawks. Is is okay that the rooster tries to mate with the females?

It may just be my rooster, but they've all been together since I got them. My rooster is a jerk, but he does try to mount my ducks on occasion. They are all around 2 1/2 months I think, I'd have to look at a calender to be sure. I plan on separating him one way or another before long. My chickens avoid my ducks mainly because they don't like being wet, and the ducks are pretty messy. They stay on opposite ends of the run for the most part.

I have chickens and ducks in the same coop, feild and everything and they do wonderfully! I even had chickens before I got my ducks (2 pekin girls<3) so introduced them to the chickens I already had and there were vurtiually no problems! I have an agressive rooster who before we moved him as well as my 2 other roos (who are not aggressive at all, in fact are quite sweet) into a rooster flock by themselves he was with the ducks and he tried to mate with the ducks and was a little aggressive with them but that was just THAT roo, the other two didnt so it just depends on your roo I guess you will probably have to see. I hope I helped you, we absolutely LOVE our ducks so I HIGHLEY recommend them!!!

My ducks actually "yell" at the chickens to get off their pool, when they try to roost on it lol! In the coop I cut a whole in a 5 gallon bucket to reduce the splash inside. The chickens drink out of the same bucket and they drink out of their pool outside as well, they don't seem to mind getting wet. They also always stay in a group, if they all go outside, everyone follows.
