My chickens won't go out in the snow

I put some old carpet down after the last snowstorm in late December and it got them out of the coop and even roaming onto the snow

unfortunately it froze to the ground and the most recent snowstorm covered it up so the girls will only poke their heads out the coop door

I'm gonna pick some up today to get them out and in fresh air and sunshine

My little flock was hesitant at first, but after awhile, they began to go out in it but don't seem really happy since they can't forage. I placed a tarp over one end of the run so that it is sheltered and the ground stays free of snow. They will often congregate back there. We've had extremely cold weather, in the teens and twenties this winter, with frequent snowfall and hard frozen ground. I was worried that they wouldn't do well, but they seem to be thriving. I did break down and put a red heat lamp in their coop at night and only use it when it's very cold.
