my chicks are about 5 weeks old now! i found bloody stool in the tub. HELPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP

Corid is the medication of choice. It is easy on their systems. You need to treat everyone. It will not hurt them at all to be treated even if they don't have Coccidiosis.

It isn't anything you did wrong. It is a protozoa that lives in soil. You just can't keep chicks away from it, it's impossible. As for medicated feed, it only aids in the prevention, it will not stop them from getting it if there is an overload of Coccidia in the soil. Relax, it happens to the best of us.

The good thing is, you noticed it right away and you can treat. It is a very treatable illness when caught, left too long though and it is fatal.

Did it look like this?

I would go ASAP in the morning. My TSC didn't have Corid or Sulmet I had to go to Southern States. When I found blood it was like drops of blood when you cut yourself. Then I noticed it in the poop. I didn't know who was infected at first, I was watching for poop all day long! I treated all within hours of seeing the bloody stool. That night I thought they all looked good, they were eating and drinking and thought everyone was going to be ok. The next morning I had one who wouldn't get up so I brought her in the house to try to get her to drink and gave her yogurt but she wouldn't eat and barely drank, she died wit in 30 min. She was one of the ones acting fine the day before, Try to treat them ASAP. Good luck I hope I didn't scare you and I hope it isn't cocci but the sooner you can treat the better. My girls were about 7 weeks old I think.

I got Corid this morning at Ice&Coal.

It is officially in their water... Now my fingers are crossed.

I woke up this morning, everyone is still alive and acting normal - but I noticed two more bloody poos! I added fresh pine shavings this morning, medicated their water and lifted the water up a bit so they don't dirty it as easily.

Great job! Now you just need to relax and wait for them to get better.

When you say that you added fresh pine, did you remove the old? With Coccidiosis, all bedding needs to be removed and the area bleached thoroughly. They will reinfect themselves otherwise. Some even use ammonia to clean with saying it does a better job killing the Coccidia.

I planned on cleaning the entire area today. THOROUGHLY. I had absolutely no more time this morning.

I was planning on moving them outside on Friday. Should I still do this?

If you can, I would wait until they are finished their medication. You can keep a closer eye on them that way. It would only be another two days...

yeah. you have a point there.

i just hope i am doing everything right. i am so nervous they are all going to die. NEGATIVE NANCY OVER HERE!!!!

i made stephen peek in before me this morning in case one died. they really seem to be acting quite normal. i guess that is a good thing?
