If a broody hen takes care of them they will probably never be bored, while being with momma hen and scratching around in the dirt and grass and feeling safe

Hi! I bought an over priced treat bar from my farm store and my chicks don't like it. I'm hoping I can give it to a friend for her chicks, such a waste. My chicks started pecking their brooder at the same age but then I changed cages so they could go to an outside brooder and they aren't doing it anymore. Sunday and Monday will be WARM (so exciting) and I'm going to put them in the yard but still in a wire dog crate without the bottom, that way they are protected but still able to play in the grass. They will be 3 weeks by then.

I kept mine busy with a suet cage (normally used to feed birds) and adding bread, broccoli, lettuce and things in it for them to pick on. I did use the expensive baby treat bar and they loved it. We also cut a narrow slit in our cardboard box brooder so they could peek out. Hope this helps. Good luck!

You can see the suet cage in my avatar picture. We still give them treats in it.
