So the chicks are out in their new ex pen that I built yesterday... it's just a little 4x8 pvc enclosure with chicken wire and a tarp at one end. It started pouring, and the silly little guys were all just huddled out in the middle getting wet! I had to go out with an umbrella and shoo them under the tarp end. Once there, they seemed stunned to find it dry with food and water available. Is this normal or do I have special chickens?

haha they just have to get used to it out there! they've never been in rain before so they didn't really know you can get out of it lol. When I moved some of my mutt chicks to a new brooder they were all huddled in the corner away from the heat lamp! I moved them over there and then they just moved back haha But they got the hang of it finally

I think your chicks are perfectly normal!

The phrase isn't Bird-Brain for nothing.

I adore my chicks- but sometime they amaze me with their antics! You just have to shake your head and sigh... they'll figure it out eventually.

That sort of thing is what a hen would teach her chicks. Without a hen, it's going to be your job to teach them.

I think all chicks are special, and there is nothing wrong with that.

That makes sense... I didn't even think of that! Are there other things I should teach them, or will they reveal themselves over time? Hopefully at some point I will have a nice broody hen that can raise me a bunch of chicks.
