Hi Everyone!

I am a newcomer to BYC.. and also to keeping chickens - my girls arrived today!!! We have wanted chickens for some time and finally decided to take the plunge!! We are lucky to have a few friends locally that keep chickens as well and are a wonderful source of information to newbies like us!

We ordered 9 girls and one died during transport. I know this is normal, but now I am trying to find another female chick light brown leghorn as that was one breed we were all so happy to have as a part of our flock... I know all the hatcheries have minimums, and even if I take the plunge and add 3 more they wont be available for 3 weeks. I was hoping to maybe find a chick locally so that perhaps they could join the flock sooner than later..

Does anyone know of any local hatcheries in CT or NY that would perhaps have them? Or where I could look on this site to find someone who may know where I could turn?

Welcome to BYC and the wonderful world of chickens!

I'm sorry to hear about your chick, and I'm not sure where you can find hatcheries. You could try searching for local breeders, there are a lot of them out there.

We love talking about poultry, so feel free to ask any questions you may have, make comments, post pictures, or just tell fun stories.

You should try searching for the thread dedicated to your state. You're more likely to find someone there that has one for you.
