You did the right thing for pasty butt. Just watch them as it could happen again.

I wouldn;t worry with the roost yet, but I guess it wouldn;t hurt.

Gwen, I'm down in Winlock and your post made me laugh. My oh my... we're both on chick watch as well from Meyers for the same date! We'll have to compare notes when they get here next week.

The pics from the OP are soooo cute!

Good luck with your new family members! City girl here, moved to rural area 5 yrs ago. Bought week old chicks 2 weeks ago. They keep a smile on my face. I'm learning as I go because I am pretty clueless. Must be doing something right they are still alive and thriving. 4 buff orpington's, 6 Brahma's, 2 Cochins and 4 Wyandotts. Keep us posted !

Thanks, I will keep an eye on the pasty butt situation.
I was asking about the roost because a few of the chicks perch on top of the food dish to sleep at night.

I have some chicks from Idea, a week or so ago, anyway, they are doing very well.

I got 10 Cuckoo Maran pullets, and 15 banties, Mille Fleurs and Buff Black Tailed Japanese.
