yes they all do that! they are still sweet ones! mine did the same thing, kinda freaked me out...its babies being babies

I use puppy pads for the first 3-4 days, then switch to pine shavings . I did try the pelleted bedding and was hoping I'd like it, since I use it for the horses and I'd then only need one type of bedding. But, I didn't find it worked any better than shavings, and they love dust bathing in the shavings, which they can't do in the pellets.

Last year I used pine shavings and that was fine. This year I am using a thick bed of shredded paper from the office and I like it a lot. It is free, I have an endless supply and there is no odor, and when it's done it will be make excellent garden compost. I am mixing shredded paper with straw in my main coop now. I agree that flat pages of paper seems like it would be slippery for them.
