My chicks where freaking out

You really do have a circus on your hands! I relate. A few years ago, I had chicks six weeks apart in age, and integrating all of them with the older hens was quite a challenge.

You have the best solution - the small pop holes that the large hens can't get through, and smaller ones for the smallest chicks. Believe me, they find them fast and learn to navigate them at warp speed. A couple days and everyone should have it all figured out.

But aren't chicks just so much fun?

Thank You...

I used a piece of 1/4" rope to mark the doorway between two run areas for my large birds.

For the littles and the dog crate it wasn't marked in any way, I just shoved them thru it a few times, they figured it out.

I'd take them all outside the safe area, with the big birds locked out, then show them thru a few times.

I have an image on the first page that shows how I have it set up. In a panic they run right past if many times before the get their head on straight and find it. This is more stressful for me I think. Specially when one is being chased and can't find the door.

I pulled them all out and one by one they all found it except 5 I think. I grabbed them up and showed them through. I will do it at least once a day. I'm tired, been out there all day babysitting kids that don't want to come out except maybe 7 or 8 periodically.

I'm just a worry wart, get some wart be-gone :) I so wish I could have gotten them all at once.

Thank you

I'm afraid to leave it open when I am not out there.
Oh Geez! I didn't see that image before...not sure why, I remember reading that post but not seeing the pic.

That looks great!! ....and should work well once they figure it out...it's nerve wracking, I know. Just gotta keep trying.
Maybe put all of the youngers on the 'danger' side, with the older birds somewhere else, see if the ones that find it will lead the rest...they really learn a lot by example.

Then put one of the older birds(the nicest one?) in there.

I have 1 week old chicks in with the big girls using this method, they have all they need in their area, but they always want to be out and about, so they snuck out into the run one morning (gah) since then they have stayed closer to home.
