My Chicks

Most likely, but even if they don't it's not a happy situation for the hen, who will likely be overmated until she has no feathers on her back and sometimes can't even get to the food or water without being attacked. The usual ratio, I think, is one rooster to 10 hens or so, if that helps.

Edited to add: We bumped heads, Sour!

I have had the same thoughts myself. I can't have males due to my neighbours. I'll be gutted if I have to get rid of them. When do they start crowing?

Many things affect that anywhere from 8wks to 8 months so  anything is possible

Oh 'eck. I've just been reading about those no crow collars. I may have to give them a whirl. Saying that though, won't two males fight over the one female?
might be worth looking into

And yes, I would get rid of one and get a couple more girls

Hi. I've spoken to my breeder and told him that my girls are potentially boys. He agreed to take them back next week when he sees them if this is the case. I'll be getting female Buff Orpingtons in return.

I'm so upset that it has come to this as i've become very attached to my lil ones in such a short space of time. But, needs must and keeping Poppy safe and well is at the forefront of my mind, not my emotions.

Thanks for all your help and advice. I'll post some pics of my new girls when I have them.

very sorry that you have to get rid of them, but that is great that he is taking them back and exchanging for others
dont worry, you'll get attached to these as well

Quote: I feel your pain and hope you know that the Buff Orpingtons you're receiving in exchange are definitely pullets! Of the different breeds I have, the Buffs are the friendliest in the bunch and will win you over! Best of luck!!!

Thanks. I'm sure after a few tears and longings i'll get used to the new girls.

I'm sure this time the same mistake won't be made. Thanks for replying

Oh dear. My roos have started crowing at 16 weeks. Unfortunately the breeder cannot take them off me just yet as we (the UK), have a restriction placed on us for the prevention of Avian Flu. This is in place until 6 Jan. I only hope the crowing doesn't get out of hand and the neighbours don't complain before then. Fingers crossed for me guys
