My cockerel has a lump on its back

Hi @Miss Henman

This is located on the chick's back - not the front area like the crop? If you have some photos of the whole chick so we can see the location better that would help.

How is he doing?
Does the lump feel like it has air in it?

The only thing I can think of is possibly a leaking or ruptured air sac. Keep watch on it if the chick is breathing fine - it may go down on it's own. If he is having difficulty breathing, then seek a vet's assistance or you can try to deflate it yourself using an 18guage needle to just barely pierce the skin and release the air. After releasing the air, place some gauze, cotton or a clean finger over the hole to help it seal. Sometime air may need to be released more than once.

If the lump is hard - leave it be and watch it.

The lump looks like an air sack on the side of her crop.

if so then I would squish her crop to see if you can get the air out.this happens to my birds all the time and is completely normal if its what I'm talking about.
