My coop ... aka: Chicken Resort

I recently bought a litter box scooper. The flies have greatly reduced now that I scoop out the poo a couple times a day.

Now all I need to find is a big snow shovel type thing to turn the shavings in the coop. I'm in FL so ummmm that's not easy to find. Right now I just use a stick and stir them around each day. I'm using the deep litter method ... So I sprinkle DE once in a while and stir daily. Works great!

Thanks again for the kind complements. We are enjoying the chickens so much!

Love the "chicken tv" term! We definitely watch a lot if it!

I haven't tried this myself but I've heard that if you hang a vanilla scented air fresher, the pine tree shaped one it will ward off flies. Your coop looks so amazing its hard to believe you're plagued with flies. I had flies when my little flock was small. I kept them in an extra large dog crate until the coop was completed. But I moved them to the new home, no more flies

Wow! Guess my girls are really slumming it. Poor things!

My peeps digs aren't this grand either but I got a great compliment the other day when showing off pics on my phone. Lady said wow, that's a chicken coop? Nice. And I'm happy hubby is getting what we need this weekend to finally construct the cattle panel whoop run. Soon I'll be getting them out and into the grass. It will me moveable so I can rotate the run about the yard. School bus driving start Monday which will mean limited time during the week but weekends can be most of the day. My biggest concern is their exercise and need to forage. I want to eventually have a chicken tunnel from coop to run. Can't afford to do everything all at once.

The windows open and close from outside of the coop. They are held open with simple white boards/sticks. There is a little notch in the end so it sits just right on the wood. We've had some big storms and they didn't budge. The windows are lined with hardware cloth that is very well secured.
They look too high to reach without a ladder....but then there's nothing in the pics to give a scale.

Yes they are too high. Here's a picture of me by the coop a few days ago. I would need a ladder to close the windows -- but here in FL we have not needed to close them yet. The rain doesn't come in them at all. We have big thunder storms quite often and the coop has stayed nice and dry. It really only gets cold enough to worry with closing them for maybe a week or two (if that) in the winter.
