My coop ... aka: Chicken Resort

Out last name is Lewis; so, it often gets called "The Lewis Chicken Resort" by friends and family...

Thanks again for all the compliments. I do think my husband has outdone himself! I am in chicken heaven for sure.

I do catch myself calling them in and saying "mama has a treat for you". If someone had told me 20 yrs ago I would be crazy over a flock of chickens -- I would have laughed at them in disbelief!

I personally would live in that and give the chickens my house.
It is AMAZING!!!!!! WOW

Too funny! I hear ya about the chicken bug.

We did get our first egg on 8/1. They were almost 17 wks old. My kids were beyond excited. I took a bunch of pictures :)

Even today one of my kids had to call me while I was out grocery shopping to tell me they found another egg ... Which confirmed another pullet is laying. We have 4 or 5 of them laying now....

... Um and I am guilty of surfing on here many evenings a week. I definitely have the bug!

it is fun collecting the first eggs. I have brown....blue....speckled coloured egg layers. I had an itty bitty blue egg laid last week. My grandson helps me collect eggs. He laughed at the tiny egg from my Ameraucana pullet. I said she laid a "baby egg"....which made him laugh more. He asked why it was not big like all the other eggs. I said as delicate as I could...lol..um...well....you see......she is just getting started in laying eggs........and um.....she needs to lay tiny ones.....until her bum stretches

. That got a loud.....belly roar from my 6 year old grandson. then I had a brown layer start laying wrinkled eggs. I am not even going to start and explain how that was made.

They look too high to reach without a ladder....but then there's nothing in the pics to give a scale.

Yes they are too high. Here's a picture of me by the coop a few days ago. I would need a ladder to close the windows -- but here in FL we have not needed to close them yet. The rain doesn't come in them at all. We have big thunder storms quite often and the coop has stayed nice and dry. It really only gets cold enough to worry with closing them for maybe a week or two (if that) in the winter.
Yep, that's about how tall I figured it was. Oh, well, FLA explains that..I doubt you'll need to ever close them.
