Thanks everyone. Is someone wants the plans and a cost est, I got the lumber from lowes but you can find it cheaper maybe. If its dry enough today I will prime it and pick a color. Wifey says like a burnt red.

If you do get snow, it will load & break the top wire on the run section.

Rain will load up the run, as well.

I like to go off the end of buildings. I also enter buildings through the run. This way, if a bird blows up it just ends up in the run, not the yard.

Also, did you do what my husband just did, and put the pop-door level with the floor?

He's out there fixing it now... I want to use the DLM and I don't want the shavings falling out!

Good looking job and nice level site too. I agree with what Joedie and Gumpsgirl said. From the photos, it seems that the roost is lower than the nests. Only reason I bring it up is that chooks will overnight in highest place in coop and that is where poop will accumulate too. Good that you put permanent ventilation at peak of gables. Are soffits vented too? Almost impossible to have too much permanent ventilation as long as it is up high, above wall tops if possible. Then windows can be used to vary/increase it in summertime when drafts at roost level are desirable.

One last thought. You might consider adding hardware cloth mesh to perimeter of coop to prevent rats, mice, weasels, etc from living there. Just a suggestion.

If we get snow it is usually a dusting or it will melt fast (hopefully) but I have extra just in case. The ground is very sandy and drains well. Inside is all closed off also so I dont think I will have that problem with the birds escaping. The timber is nice in the summer for shade but the sun rises from that direction so I will have to provide some shade from the afternoon and evening sun in the hot months.
